The Alvord Inn is
a shady oasis in the little town of Fields, Oregon, which sits at
the juncture of the spectacular 10,000 foot Steens Mountain, the
vast expanse of white-washed alkali flats of the Alvord Desert, and the
rugged majesty of the Pueblo and Trout Creek Mountains.
Your innkeepers are Chris
and John Hodges, fourth generation descendants of the pioneer families of
Harney County, including W. W. "Broady" Johnson who came to Harney County
in 1876.
Guests at
the Alvord Inn can enjoy an amazing variety of birds and wildlife right
from the cool comfort of the lushly landscaped grounds around the Inn, or
travel in any direction to experience different slices of the "Old West."
Relax in the peaceful, quiet surroundings and enjoy the bounty of
nature's unspoiled beauty at it's finest in Oregon's High Desert
Country.
The area offers numerous
attractions for birders, hunters, fishermen, rockhounds, RV'ers,
photographers, star-gazers, history buffs and Old West enthusiasts. Other
activities include desert land sailing, kite flying, natural, open-air
hot springs and an evening coyote chorus!
The region abounds with a
wide variety of wild life such as elk, mule deer, pronghorn antelope, big
horn sheep, pheasant, doves, geese, and ducks. Rainbow, cutthroat
and red band trout are found in many lakes and streams. Other wildlife you
might see include wild horses, jack rabbits, coyotes, and prairie dogs.
People come for different
reasons and all seasons. We are receiving inquiries and bookings early
